Their Four Port Rum recently won “Best in Class” at the American Distilling Institute’s judging this year! Starting May 14th, VaBoozNews will be hosting tasting events for different Virginia Distilleries on the Riverfront Canal Boats in Richmond Virginia. The first event will feature Richmond’s James River Distillery. Get to meet their head distiller, Dwight Chew as you taste their spirits and cocktails during your canal cruise.
After the one hour cruise, you will be invited to the after party at Shiplock Brewing in Richmond, one block away which will feature cocktails made with James River’s spirits as well as food and Shiplock’s beer for purchase.

I have a Groundhogs Day party every year.Why a Groundhogs Day party? I guess because I grew up in Pennsylvania and because it seemed no one else jad one.
Usually this was at my house, and we always had a lot of fun. This year, after reading that the Byrd theater is screening the movie “Groundhog Day” I decided to try something different. I also decided to open it up to friends of VaBoozNews.
For the party this year, we will start with a screening of the movie at 7:15pm. After tue movie, we will go next door to the New York Deli for appetizers, a special tapping of Triple Crossing beer, and special cocktails created for the occasion using Belle Isle moonshine, Cirrus vodka, and James River spirits.
Beginning at 10pm there will be karaoke and if you want to try singing a groundhog song, you will have your chance! Other fun during tje party as well.

I was in New York for the weekend to celebrate Betty’s Birthday. Down the street from our Hotel was a Russian restaurant and bar, the Samovar.
It was a cold.day, so we started with Traditional Russian tea from the Samovar. Rich black tea served with honey and lemon.
Next came the house infused vodka! I chose cucumber infusion, whose light flavor complimented the vodka while allowing the flavor of the vodka to shine through! The horseradish infusion was recommended by Maria, the bartender which was also wonderful
They have sweeter infusions like Mango and raspberry as well
I would highly recommend stopping by for an authentic experience and outstanding spirits!
Welcome to VaBoozNews. This site is the continuation of the writing I began with AshlandBoozNews. As I continue to explore the Craft Spirits scene in Virginia, I got more of a state wide focus. This site will continue to be Spirit and Beer heavy ( reflecting my own interests) along with Cideries, Meaderies, and some wineries.

Went to Steam Bell Brew works in Midlothian, Va for their ‘secret’ opening. They had 3 beers, one sold out before I could try it. Of the 2 I tried,
The “Grisette” saison: very drinkable, lots of flavors. This is the beer I had 2 of! Just a great session beer
The “Time is Money” IPA: great nose, which is one of the things I look for in an IPA. Not bitter, again very drinkable. Would be a great one to introduce people to the style without burning their taste buds. I love IPAs, hop bombs incuded. I still liked this beer. Good flavor, very balanced. But people who say ‘ I don’t like IPAs’ should still try this.
Great place, friendly vibe, neat pictures on the wall. Southside now has a kick ass brewery!
